YAA!! – yet another acquisition!
Google does it like the FC Bayern München and like Adobe – they buy out the market. With the acquisition of YouTube there is no successful competitor in webbased videostreaming and -hosting left. I know, there is photobucket and some others, but none of them have nor ever had the power to take on with GoogleTube.
Although Mark Cuban, founder of broadcast.com during the new economy hype, is cited just an “idiot” would consider buying youtube, this 1.6 billion dollar deal seems to be some kind of monster. Does anyone remember EPIC?
I for myself like google. They’re true innovators and come with good ideas all day long. I store my emails at google, use their calendar, their search engine, their adsense system and something more. But in my view the internet is made for competition and decentralisation, so at least I’ll go move my videos from YouTube to photobucket, until they’re bought by yahoo or microsoft.
By the way: I think this whole commercial web2.0 thing will die a more or less fast death during the upcoming six months. Even the kids will realize that they generate content for the big player’s commercial success. And which treu punkrock-boy does really want this?!
So, geek boys’n'girls, where’s the next mindblowing web-startup? I’m hungry!
